CompuSCANIR™ adds a New Service Product - Data Center ThermalMap™

CompuSCANIR™, a divison of Stockton Infrared Thermographic Services, Inc., (SITS) announces the launch of Data Center ThermalMap™. CompuSCANIR™ has been providing specialized electrical and mechanical infrared testing as a predictive maintenance service to support the uninterruptable operation of data centers for over 15 years. Now, Data Center ThemalMap™ provides a thermal look at the cooling system performance of a data center facility. Thermal mapping is used to commission new facilities, validate CFD modeling that was used in the original design, to troubleshoot heating problems and to progressively monitor existing cooling systems. The large scale panoramas and mosaics provide a new context that traditional individual IR images cannot provide. By viewing the servers, floor, walls and ceilings in a data center from any angle, problems with the cooling system can be found, documented and repaired.

SITS was founded in 1989 and is one of the North America’s leading providers of infrared thermographic services. The CompuSCANIR™ Division of SITS has traditionally offered specialized infrared P/PM inspections on the electrical and mechanical systems that support the uninterruptable operation of computer data centers. 24/7 support has been key in the success of Stockton’s CompuSCANIR™ services.

Eric Stockton, Vice-President of SITS and CompuSCANIR Division Manager, said “Managers of data centers get a look of the components which could potentially shut down their data center’s operation. With respect to our thermal mapping service, we are finding that every data center has problems with the cooling systems and all have the potential to save electricity [money] by making the cooling systems more efficient.”

“Actually, we have been providing a similar, but much less sophisticated product similar to for some number of years,” states Greg Stockton, President of SITS. “While we were in the facility checking the electrical switchgear, we would walk down the aisles of the data center with an IR camera and look for cold and hot spots. But Data Center ThermalMap™ is a breakthrough in the presentation of the information and ease of understanding the results. We are now helping the server rack manufacturers and raised-floor tile manufacturers make better thermal designs,” concludes Mr. Stockton.
